After sharing an account of her summer trip to Ghana with her hometown newspaper, the Fall River Herald News, Angela Allard ’14, received nationwide coverage when the article was picked up by the Associated Press and featured by news outlets across the U.S. and in Ghana.
Allard, a native of Fall River, Mass., volunteered this summer for Unite For Sight, a global nonprofit health organization dedicated to eye health and the elimination of preventable blindness. She assisted with surgical procedures, clinic work, and distributed glasses to village residents.
She told the Herald News:
“I felt like I was making a difference and empowering them with sight,” Allard said. “It gives them the opportunity to live their lives the way they want to.”
The article was picked up by Associated Press outlets including the Boston Herald, Ghana Herald, Providence Journal, the Sacramento Bee, and many others.
